Good and adequate analgesia is a fundamental right of every patient. Although quality pain management is much more affordable today, the quality of pain management is still dependent on the active interest of healthcare professionals and the organization of acute and chronic pain management in the workplace. The high-quality analgesia has been repeatedly proven to be associated with a reduction in morbidity, faster recovery and discharge from the hospital.

Bone pain syndrome in malignant diseases

Bone tumors and bone metastases are one of the main sources of pain at patients with advanced oncological diseases and thus one of the main causes of lowering with quality of the in lives. They represent the loss of functional independence of a patient, limit the ability to participate in common daily activities, are often associated with the terminal oncological illness and lead to far, anxiety and depression. Prevalence of pain in bone tumors is 85-100 %.

Breakthrough pain is a transitory flare of strong intensity pain in patients with otherwise well controlled and treated baseline pain. It occurs in any chronic pain, both of cancer and non-cancer type. Its treatment should be part of the treatment of any chronic pain. To solve this kind of pain, each out patient treated for chronic pain should be equipped with suitable rescue medication with rapid onset of action.
